The competition proper took place at the fabulous 'Smallbone of Devizes' kitchen showroom, situated in Knightsbridge, London.
The 10 finalists came from all walks of chocolate life, ranging from the professional through to the amateur, with the youngest being 18 year old Zara Snell. The judges were led by the food author Glynn Christian and included representations from chocolatiers, magazines, plus a charity and a national newspaper.

Each contestant crafted two chocolates for the judges to try in a blind trial, with only the common ground being chocolate and salt. The range put before the judges was exotic to say the least, with marvellous flavours such as passion fruit, balsamic vinegar and of all things... roast beef.
After much deliberation the winners were announced with the top prize being awarded to the Highland Chocolatier, who produced the exquisite "lime and chilli white chocolate velvet/salted raspberry and peppers velvet".
This was delightful event and one which I was proud to cover and of course, who could not resist trying some of the chocolates...
